Stephen works from a studio on Hoddy Road, on the fringes of the picturesque Mapua Estuary, near Nelson, New Zealand.
Stephen creates functional pieces, which combine simplicity of form with a striking use of contrasting colours, and a “hi-gloss” glaze finish. By continual experimentation with glazes he has achieved some remarkable effects such as his popular craze glaze. Yet in spite of the professionalism of the finished surface, his works which are wheel-thrown retain the individual impressions of the potter’s hand. He has received commissions for dinner sets and other pieces from as far away as Australia, London and the U.S. Stephen has a Diploma in Ceramic Art from Otago Polytechnic, Dunedin, New Zealand. Prior to starting his own business, he worked for Royce McGlashen Pottery in Brightwater, Nelson, New Zealand. |
